International, multi-stop Air Travel with small dog - any experts there

Hey folks,

I am trying to travel from the US to Dominican Republic - where I will stay for a month - and then from the Dominican Republic to Ireland. She is 12 pounds and so can travel in-cabin with me (i DO NOT want to put her in hold)

I am looking online and have emailed airlines (who haven't responded) but I feel unclear about a few things.

  1. There are no direct flights from where I live to Dominican Republic - we will need to stop. Is this an issue with a dog? What if there are different airline carriers e.g. Jetblue from LAX to Miami - AirCanada from Miami to Dominican Republic? Not all airlines accept dogs? Do I have to pay multiple fees?
  2. It says I need an up-to-date Doggie Passport - it says you need to bring the dog to the vet a few days before you travel - when I am in the Dominican Republic for a month and then heading to Ireland will I need to bring her to the vet in the DR again?

Any expert advice on this
