So I'll start by saying my cats have been together their whole lives and are now about 4 and a half. They are both females, fixed, indoors and up to date with vaccines.
Two months ago we moved from the apartment they had been living in their whole lives to a new suite. My one orange cat, had an extremely hard time with the move wellst my calico seemed fine. At first it was my orange cat hissing and refusing to allow my calico to be near her. After a certain point my calico started chasing down my orange cat as a result. My orange cat howls and hisses well my calico chases and bullies her. This happens all day, every day and has been since we moved.
These are the things I've done to try and prevent this.
I have two separate litter boxes, food dishes and scratch posts in different parts of the house. I have the water dish (a motorized one that was quite expensive) smack in the middle of the living room where there is plenty of space for them to come and go. I have invested in pheromone plug ins that are supposed to simulate a mother cats scent. I have spent about 400 bucks now trying to resolve these issues. I try separating them when the fighting starts by placing one in the bedroom for about 15 minutes.
The only other things I can think of now is re-introducing (which I don't want to do as I'll have to put a cat in a room for weeks) and the vet to look at medications (which I also don't want to do.)
I'm at a loss and am looking for other ideas, or even success stories. It's so sad that two cats who were so close at one point constantly fight now. I feel dejected and worried that things won't change and I can't imagine having to re home one of my fur babies.
