Hi! I’m wanting to get a small rodent pet sometime this year, and am having trouble finding stuff online besides “five basic rodent pets arranged in various orders.”
My last set of rodents were a trio of female rats who were the most amazing beans I’ve ever met. I’m not ready to have rats again, and I’m hoping to find something with a more manageable sized habitat (I had a double critter nation, which I had to take in and out of a sliding glass door with a step). I’d like to get a 40 gallon breeder tank at the dollar per gallon sale at petco for whatever my future pet is.
Another thing I’m hoping for is a pet with a bit more longevity. I read that duprasi (fat tailed gerbils) can live 5-8 years, but I have no idea where to obtain one (I’m in Oregon, US).
Basically, I want something I can handle at least a little bit, can live in a 40b tank, and lives a lil bit longer. I realize I can’t expect the perfection of rats in other rodents, personality-wise, but is there anything close to what I’m looking for?
I was directed to this subreddit by someone who responded to my post in the rats subreddit. Sorry if this is weird. I just am not finding anything helpful when I google around for this sort of thing.
