I am planning on bringing 2nd feline addition to my home this year and I am concerned about the doubling of expenses and time required for personal care
My current cat is absolutely amazing; the routine and dynamic we share is the best thing I've experienced in my previous years of dog ownership She is affectionate and laid back- she likes her alone time but isn't shy about coming up to me and demanding belly rubs and chin scratches She likes to follow me around Scooping her litter box is a predictable routine and is so easy to facilitate Brushing her hair daily is so satisfying and she enjoys it a lot as well
My journey with her in life is still adolescent; and I have yet to run into any emergency vet bills, specific behaviour problems , common issues such as obesity and oral hygiene issues I suppose I'm just worried that if I introduce a 2nd cat, I would be destroying the comfort of the singular relationship I have with my cat and multiplying these undiscovered problem variables that may impact me later in life
I spoke briefly to my mother about my decision to get a 2nd cat and she rightfully was worried, "what would you do if your cat needed a 10,000$ surgery, would you be willing to make that sacrifice?" Even if that figure was 5000$, I would admittedly be hesitant and likely not want to spend that much It's a very difficult scenario to envision, as I've never had to spend that kind of money on a pet (I've had 3 dogs over the course of my childhood) That being said I do have a small savings I set aside for emergencies which I contribute a few hundred dollars to every month Ideally I would be enriching my pets life enough to deter health problems like obesity etc, but this sort of scenario has been bothering me a lot recently
Am I overthinking the hypothetical problems and financial responsibilities? Should I reconsider getting another cat?
