Currently, I am living with my cat and my parents in a two story house. My cat has a lot of space to roam around and she seems pretty happy. I'm looking to move out because my parents were very abusive in the past and being around them is pretty harmful to me. My best friend wants to rent an apartment or house together which I would love to do as she's a wonderful influence in my life. Her and I are both paying our way through graduate school so we are trying to live together to save money and have a nicer place than we would on our own.
Unfortunately, she is very allergic to cats. If we lived together, my cat wouldn't be able to have free roam of the area. We talked about getting a place with a large basement where I could keep my cat and my bedroom there. Or a place with a bedroom on the second story and we could keep the cat on the second story only. My cat and I used to live in a 300 sq ft studio and she seemed pretty happy there. I played with her everyday and she had a gigantic cat tree she liked to run around on.
If I can't find any places like that, would it be cruel to keep a cat in a ~200 sq ft bedroom? I really want my cat to be happy but I am also worried about having to pay too much for rent or having to live with my parents longer.
