A few days ago my friend and I noticed that our cat (Artemis) had a weird bump next to his tail. When we touched that area, Artemis would yelp or hiss.
We made an appointment to see the vet this morning to get it checked out. The vet said he would do an exam, X-ray, and see what is wrong. We were told we would get a call to pick up Artemis after he has been treated. Vet calls my friend and tells her that out cat had an abscess in his tail and they would have to sedate him to drain it out. We said ok.
Immediately after, my friend gets a call to go to the hospital right away. When she gets there, she sees the vet doing CPR on Artemis. The vet said he didn't know what was wrong. Artemis went into cardiac arrest as they administered the anesthesia and unfortunately, he didn't make it.......
Vet kept saying he didn't know why or how Artemis reacted to the anesthesia. He kept trying to blame it on the abscess.
We looked over Artemis' records from when we adopted him from a animal shelter. He was under general anesthesia when he got neutered so we don't think he is allergic to it. When Artemis was found as a stray, he had URI (Upper Respiratory Infection), but they treated him at the shelter.
Now my friend and I have no idea what to do. We both never owned any pets before Artemis. What steps should we take? Should we take legal action? Necropsy?
