My dog tested Heartworm positive on January 17, 2019.

I’ll be posting the journey here. I had no idea that heartworm treatment was so expensive and extensive. I hope this may be helpful to others. I found another reddit post and they did the same thing and it was so helpful!

I took Katie for annual visit and discovered she has heart worms. I have had her for a year. When we got her we had her spayed, got her vaccines, and had her microchipped. We had also given her Trifexis. After a bad reaction, the next month we tried Interceptor, but she reacted badly to that as well. I had never gotten around to trying something different. The vet seems to think her reaction to it was due to the fact she already had heart worms. He said her heart murmur is not bad, and she’s not exhibiting any signs so she is not in advanced stages. We were given 1 Heart Guard pill and Doxycycline Hyclate for 30 days. Restricted exercise as well for 30 days. The Doxycycline Hyclate made her sick if I gave it to her with breakfast. I had to give her breakfast first and then an hour later give her the pill. I had no idea heart worm treatment was three or four months long. This will be a long journey.
