Hi, my girlfriend and I recently got a very nice apartment all to ourselves! We've both always wanted cats, and so now that we have our own space, we've rescued two cats. We 'shopped around' and went to several shelters nearby to make sure we were adopting critters who we really, really clicked with. Yesterday, our paperwork for the first cat, Phillipe, was finalized! He's a remarkably sweet, laid back, chatty cat, about five years old. We spent the day together with him, letting him settle into his new life, get comfy in his new home, that sort of thing. Today, we picked up our second cat, Brucie, who, at the shelter, was a very shy but sweet boy who was very affectionate, if a little bit skittish. He's about two, so he's a good bit younger. We brought him home and he spent the better part of the day hiding away in boxes, closets, and other small sneaky spaces, but once he warmed up a little, he came out and started warming up to everyone. But tonight, I noticed Bruce hiss and swat at Phillipe, who immediately backed down and backed up. We gently scolded him and the two sort of stayed apart for a bit. Bedtime rolled around. Now, last night, Phillipe slept in our bed (we got him a kitty bed but I have very soft comfy pillows which he seems to prefer) but tonight, phillipe was chilling on the bed when Bruce came up, hissed at him, and swatted him off the bed. Bruce has been banned from the bedroom for tonight, but I'm not sure what to do. I've looked into it and I know that cats can sometimes play fight, but im worried! Both kitties had records in their respective shelters saying that they got along well with other kitties, but now im nervous that they may not get along together! What can I do to mitigate this?
