I’m asking because I don’t think it’s a very good idea, but my parents do it with a cat they got after I moved out. My mom says she likes cats, but she’s also a little crazy about everything in the house being clean, so she didn’t want to keep the cat indoors at first. For the first three/four months of its life, the kitten was too small (according to them) to be outside, so they kept it and this other kitten in a big dog crate. I don’t really know anything about cats and they kept saying it was fine because they were so small, but I felt bad because there was literally nothing to do in this giant dog crate. Whenever my sister and I came to visit and we went out and got a bed and a couple of other toys to put in it because they hadn’t even given the kittens a good place to sleep. After about four months, they let both cats go outside. Not surprisingly, one of them ran away. After they only had the one left, they finally blended and decided to let cat #2 come in the house, but only one room. It’s decked out with a five story bedding/scratching post, a tunnel/scratch post thing, some kind of funnel toy with a feather in it and also has one of those cat ball toys where the cat can make the ball go around the rim. Besides that, there’s random other feathers/balls that make noise laying on the floor to chase around So it could be worse, it’s definitely a step up from the crate. My sister really wanted report them for animal cruelty. but I’m still a little bit concerned they really never let this cat out of the room. Whenever I’m home, I let the cat come into my bedroom but that’s pretty much the only time it gets let out except when one of my parents just wants to pet it on the couch (but it doesn’t get to explore that way). Thoughts? TL;DR- my parents keep their pet cat in one room, would this be considered abusive?
