Dog reacting to air purifier?

My 1.5 year old black lab/beagle mix is suddenly acting really weird.

She went into our basement and has secluded herself down there which is entirely unlike her. We even had a cable guy in the house today which normally would have sent her racing up the stairs to bark her head off and jump all over the guy and instead, we got a few barks from the basement. We tried tempting her up with treats but as soon as she got near the stairs she bolted. When I carried her up, she acting very strange and scared, sort of getting low and slinking around quickly.

I checked her all over, she’s walking fine and doesn’t seem to be in any pain. When I let her outside she was running around as usual. She’s spayed and hasn’t had any interaction with another dog other than my very old cockapoo who avoids her like the plague.

Then it clicked, this really all started yesterday afternoon. We had a couple storms roll through and a tornado touched down about 30 miles away so I thought she was sensing that but that weather is long gone. But I did purchase two air purifiers to help with allergies and she seems to be avoiding those rooms, one of them is at the top of the stairs.

Could all her weird behavior be linked to the air purifiers? I can imagine our entire upper level suddenly smells very different to her and it’s probably very confusing.

If that’s the case, has anyone had any experience with this before? My husband and kids have terrible seasonal allergies so I’d hate to shut them off but I can’t have my dog terrified and hiding in the basement!
