So my dog is 4 years old and has this habit of scratching the walls during the night next to where he sleeps. When we move the bed he then stops scratching that wall and scratches the one next to where he sleeps. This is not every day and we have tried to trim his nails to see if that was the cause of it but we are now at doing it once a week and he had stopped for about a month but I just found it again. Comes to a point where he stops for a long time but when we fix the wall he starts doing it again. We often wake up and tell him to stop and he does but the damage is done. We are renters so can't have damaged walls all the time.
He has plenty of toys to play with and he prefers to sleep in the stairs next to the stair gate that separates him from us (he keeps going up and down the stairs so we had to put the gate up).
He is a very anxious dog , he lived in a farm for the first 2 years of his life just alone with another dog so he was not trained at all. For the past two years we have tried to train him to be more comfortable around humans/bikes/children but some things he just can't stop like whining.
Any ideas of what to do to get him to stop scratching ?
