I’ve seen so many posts from Mother’s Day for pet owners...
Owners.
You own your pet. You are not it’s mother. You picked out your pet, whether it was from a shelter or from a breeder. You purchased it. Don’t get me wrong I’m an animal lover myself, one of my favorite things to do is volunteer at the animal shelter. But I’m a mother first. To a human being. One that I put before myself.
When I need new shoes for work and my child needs new shoes, guess who gets them? Not me. I can’t skip on buying treats and chew toys for a couple of weeks to get my shoes, I run with those old bad boys that are making my feet ache so my little one can worry about being a kid while I worry about being a mom. When I got bit while breastfeeding..several god damn times...my little one did not get euthanized.
When I had a child, who helped me? My mother. Yet when I was small and my mom had to work, she didn’t lock me in a crate until she got home. She didn’t put me in a kennel while the family went on a vacation and I did not HAVE to stay outside when they went to any store.
Us real mothers (which you ‘furmoms’ are not) have one holiday. One day to acknowledge the countless sleepless nights, picking up after our little ones, teaching them not to let the annoying people who steal the little amount of thunder the real MVPs get, and listening to what our little ones have to say no matter what their tiny minds come up with.
You have your own. It’s the last Sunday in April. It’s National Pet Parents Day. Stop collecting your participation award for a sport you don’t play in and let all of us real moms have our shine back.
Instead of buying flowers and cards for something you aren’t qualified to call yourself, why don’t you donate that $20 to a shelter? So many mothers get those so hard to shop for peanut free allergy safe snacks so their kid can share if another kid didn’t have a snack on a daily basis. That is what a real mom helping real moms looks like.
Also the pet you OWN has a real mother and she thinks you fucking suck, you did take away her little one after all. 🤷🏻♀️
