I have a 1 month old chihuahua. Two days ago, i was feeding him with regular puppy food; i always put a little bit of water on his food and wait for it to get soft enough for him to eat it.
After a little while of him eating, he started to walk awkwardly, falling to the ground and was difficult for him to breath. Also a couple of little balls grew around his neck. There was a moment when he was just down on the floor, without moving. That happened at 11:00 pm so every veterinary was closed at the time and i thought he was going to die in my hands.
Luckily, my mom could contact a vet that was still awake and we brought my dog there asap. The vet then put my dog 4 vaccines, those were painkillers and a sedative. After that we went to home and i had to stay awake all night to make sure my dog is ok. He would constantly wake up in the middle of the night and start crying out loud, just to stop a couple of seconds later and go back to sleep.
Fortunately he's doing ok so far, not yet to be the same as always, still walks awkwardly and seems to lose strenght on his back legs, but at least he's not in pain now.
So, not even the vet is sure what caused my dog to act like that, but we think that he could have ate an ant and that ant was still alive inside of him and bite him on the inside. Is that possible? That my dog almost dies because he ate an ant? Because we are now TERRIFIED of ants and we don't let my dog to even touch the floor just in case there's an ant in there.
I don't think he ate something that could poison him because we only feed him with his regular dog food and nothing else.
