If my cat got along with another cat once, is it certain it'll happen again?

I have a 5 month old (male) kitty named Bubbles. Bubbles is very sociable, when my brothers come over he usually likes to get their attention and play with them.

Not too long ago, a friend of mine asked me if I could babysit her (adult female) cat, Roswell, for two weeks. Her, being an adult cat, was very, very standoff-ish with Bubbles at first. She'd hiss and growl at him if he got too close, while all he wanted to do was get to know her and play with her.

I have a spare room so in order to keep the peace between the two, I let her have the room to herself with her own litterbox, food and toys, to help her adjust to this new environment. About 3 days later, I was able to let her roam the apartment freely and eventually let Bubbles get close to her without her hissing (too much). As the week went by, wouldn't you know it, it's as if they'd become best buddies. They played a lot together and sometimes Roswell would even clean Bubbles' fur.

When the time came that Roswell had to go home, Bubbles seemed to miss her. Hearing him meow and look for her all over the appartment was heartbreaking.

So now I'm thinking I should go to the shelter and adopt another cat to keep Bubbles company. He just seems to get along with everyone and since he's still very young, is there a good chance he'll accept another adult cat into his life?
