Hey guys!
I'm currently preparing to move my 2 kitties abroad with me. My original plan was to have them together in a large cage in the cargo hold, as was recommended by my original vet. My new vet (the old one left the practice) recommended that I bring them under the seat in carriers.
One of my cats is a bit high-anxiety, and the vet has recommended Gabapentin to help relieve the stress and adjustment process. They aren't exactly BFFs, but they have coexisted peacefully for 9 years.
I'm currently doing a test run of them just in the large crate with me at home, and they're meowing and bickering every few minutes, even with one of the cats on the Gabapentin test run after 50 minutes! The flight itself is going to be 7-8 hours.
I keep going back and forth over whether I should do cargo or carrier. I do have my fiancé travelling with me, so a second carrier is an option. I just want them to have the most comfortable experience possible, regardless of my own stress levels, and I'm unsure of the right thing to do. Is it better to have a larger cage for them to move around and chill in for a long duration and be able to be together, or will they feel more safe stuffed under a seat in a small carrier apart?
Thanks so much, your advice or experience is really appreciated. (Also posted to r/AskVet)
