Kitten won’t stop high pitch shrieking and we’re worried about him

Hi guys, any help on this matter would be highly appreciated.

We have only just got a kitten at six weeks old (on Friday) (young I know, but he’d been weaned off of mum and was eating solids which I thought was a bit strange) and he’s literally howling almost non-stop. We’ve got him in his own room at the moment as our other cat (5yo) growls loudly at him and I’m scared the 5yo will kill him as he’s quite strong. So I thought, I know, he wants attention, that’s why he’s howling. So we’ll go into his room and cuddle him and play, but he isn’t interested in playing and when he’s getting cuddles he still howls. It’s really quite loud and a little distressing. We took him to the vets yesterday and they couldn’t find anything wrong and he was a healthy weight. I know it’s very early days and he’s probably just lonely. Any ideas? He’s eating and using the litter box, unsure if he’s drinking as we haven’t seen him drink yet.

I’ve had a kitten before and he meowed, but was happy when we were in the same room and just napped. This one doesn’t seem to care if we are in the room or not. Still howls.
