My cat got his flea and tick collar stuck in his mouth twice this month. Help...?

Normally my cat is fine with his collar after he adjusts to it when we put the new collar on.

However, recently he managed to pull part of the collar up to get it stuck in his mouth twice this month (no injuries that I can see).

(He’s only ever done that once before. So getting it stuck in his mouth is unusual for him.)

The collar is adjustable with notches on one side of the collar, so we never make it too tight for him, but I want to make sure it’s tight enough so he can’t get it in his mouth again and not too tight to hurt his neck.

So, what’s the best way to make sure he doesn’t get it in his mouth again?
