So my cutie cat Scooter is getting on in years, he’s about 19 years old but not too sure because he changed owners a couple times when he was young. Recently we’ve noticed Scooter has been getting a little less alert, a little more blind and deaf and just overall seeming a little older which is to be expected. Recently he’s not been able to make it to the litter tray in time and he’s peed in my bedroom a couple times over the past eight months or so. Since then I’ve been extra wary to his ‘attention meows’ (which I’m sure some of you cat owners recognise as the ‘prrr-mow!’) which usually means he wants food asap.
Generally, Scooter is a very quiet keeps-to-himself cat, so when he meows it’s normally something serious or he’s just hungry. Recently, he’s started meowing for no apparent reason which is a little worrying to us. He does this a couple times a day and by the time I’ve come up the stairs to check on him, he’s just standing there staring at me and I check everywhere to check he hasn’t peed again.
Is this just a symptom of getting older? Do other cats do this? Should I be worried?
