Hello! First time poster. I have a very affectionate cat friend (male I believe) who has continually visited me now for about a month at the same time every afternoon. He does not have a collar or any identification. I am fairly certain its a stray, and each time I see him he looks a bit more scruffy. He keeps trying to enter my home. Today I let him inside prepared with some cat food, he ate it and then explored the kitchen a bit and then I pet him and he left. Our family has grown sweet on him. He seems young and has a playful attitude and is very forgiving. I want to try to catch him and take him into the vet and see how - if he is indeed a stray - to adopt him. What should I do? Also the reason I am thinking its a stray other than the increasing scruffy coat and interest in food is that our neighborhood sees a LOT of pet dumps. While he his extremely friendly and sweet - he has trust issues which are apparent.
If you can sort of point me in the correct direction I would really appreciate it!
TD:DR I want to adopt what i believe is a stray, looking for advice on how to go about getting him to a vet as calmly as possible and then what?
