New momma cat help!!

Apologies in advance for the long post. As the title says, my family received a new cat yesterday (called Pepper), who just so happened to give birth in the past week or so. The kittens’ eyes aren’t even open yet. Our neighbor is moving and was going to take her to the pound without the kittens, so we took her and the little ones in straight away.

None of us have ever taken care of kittens this young, or a mother cat either. We already had 5 cats (2 females that we moved in with, and 3 males, the sons of this same cat, all fixed). Naturally, Pepper was freaked out when we brought her over, but has calmed down somewhat. We have her in her own, dark room, with fuzzy blankets, litter box, food, water, etc.

What we are most concerned about is friendliness with the other cats. She’s fine with having her sons around as long as they’re not in the kitten room, but our other two girls are being growled at a bit. All the cats are familiar with each other, as they’ve all been outside cats. We’re trying to get them used to each other as part of the same household by keeping Pepper in her room with the door shut and letting the other cats sniff around, and when all the other cats are out, letting Pepper out to explore.

Is there anything we can do to help ensure that good relations are made between our cats? And if anyone has any advice on taking care of a mother cat and brand new kittens, that would be much appreciated!
