Starting about 2 months ago I noticed my 5-year-old Manx did not have an appetite like usual, and was sleeping more than normal. Took him to the vet promptly and blood work showed anemia and low white blood cells. A few days later with no improvements, and in fact worsened to rapid breathing / extreme lethargy. Took him to emergency vet where he stayed for 2 days -- He had fluid in his chest that was removed, along with x-rays, sonograms, oxygen, the works. Needless to say, they still couldn't diagnosis him and his CBC 2 weeks later with Internal Medicine Specialist showed he was still anemic with numbers not increasing the way they should if he was recovering.
We then did a full feline FCR panel, nothing. The only next step they recommend is a bone marrow biopsy test, but he is now not eating at all and I fear taking a turn for the worst. I don't think he can handle such an intrusive surgery in his condition. He has become so fearful of the vet, and needed to be sedated for the last blood test. I last took him to the vet 3 days ago because he was eating a bit then stopped, and was throwing up persistently white foam / bile. She gave him an anti-nausea steroid injection, which has helped a bit but hasn't helped his appetite return. I don't know what to do or where to turn and can't even begin to understand what this could possibly be. He's only 5. I have thousands of dollars on all of these tests and vet visits / stays, and still have no clue what is wrong with my boy.
I was told if he continues not eating over the next few days, I should consider euthanasia, but I can't even handle that thought and just hope that he will somehow get better. Please if anyone has any advice or insight, I would really appreciate it.
