Okay, I have kind of a weird story. A few days ago our cat got out and we can't find her. So, we post flyers. The next day I get a call from an unknown number and the person leaves a message saying, "Hi, I found your cat. But I really like her, so I'm going to keep her. Bye." I am distraught and angry. I just want my cat back. At the time, I didn't know that I could potentially call the number back if it was the latest call to my phone. Unfortunately, I made other calls (like to the police).
I quickly want address that people keep saying this may be a scam or a prank call, and I don't think it's a scam because they are not asking for anything and didn't give any information on how to get back to them. I don't feel like it's a prank call because it just doesn't seem like something someone would say when making a prank call, but I could be wrong.
Anyway, what I have done so far:

Called the police. They said they wouldn't be able to anything without more information.

Called my phone service provider to try and get the unknown number (this didn't go anywhere, but I am going to call again today).

We handed out flyers only in the block around our house, so it's very probable this person is in our block. We went around the entire block knocking on doors and talking to people, none of them seemed or sounded like the person who left the message.
What I'm planning on doing the next:

Physically go to the police station and talk to them again.

Call the phone provider again and talk about the unknown number.

Call the vets in the area and say if anyone brings in a cat, to check the chip to see if it's mine.
I'm still freaking out about this situation a bit, and I just want any suggestions or ideas for things I can do. I want my lovely cat back, and out other cat misses her too. :( Thank you.
