Vets sold me over £100’s worth of medication now I’ve found out my cat doesn’t even need it and it was potentially dangerous to give it to her.

Im 18 and I work part time at a minimum wage job. After saving up a couple thousand pounds I decided to buy a Persian cat I called her Luna. I signed up to my local vet and got some good insurance knowing Persian is a complicated breed. After a few months I got Luna spayed during her check up the vet checked Luna’s eyes she said they were perfectly fine not swollen not red not infected she just needed Maxitrol to help control her eyes from watering. That was all that was said about the eyedrops so I bought them. Multiple times I went back to the vet and they gave me the same eye drops for the same reason, to stop the watering. Luna had really bad diarrhoea one day and me being a panickier called the vet for a appointment, they happened to have a slot in the next 30 minutes. Having to walk to the vets meant I didn’t have enough time to bath her I just had to take her in and she was a little messy. When I showed up I had the ‘head vet’ look at her we will call him Bob. Bob took Luna’s temperature checked her eyes all the usual stuff and gave me two medications for her, one being penicillin. He turned to me said ‘one second’ walked out came back in with a razor and started shaving Luna’s butt and not just a little but all down her legs her tail. I was so upset but already being awkward in every social situation I didn’t know what to do. Of course he charged me for the shave too I didn’t even ask for it I didn’t even want it. Now, Luna recently started acting strange twitching acting scared of her tail and darting all around the house. This carried on for a few weeks and I decided to take her to the vet again, thinking it was some kind of anxiety issue. I get called in and it’s Bob again. Bob wasn’t handing Luna well at all he was really quite rough with her and she was visibly distressed. Bob then took a look at her eyes and told me she needed Maxitrol again as they were very watery. He then said she needs to have surgery as she has entropion in both of her eyes. He then got me to sign a piece of paper saying I agreed for my cat to be prescribed Maxitrol even though it’s not made for cats but it’s what’s recommended for them I signed it as Maxitrol is what every vet I’ve seen has prescribed. Bob then did a few more tests on Luna like heart beat and taking her temperature. He picked her up holding her to his side like she was a ball and walked out saying I’ll give her a blood test let me find a nurse. I didn’t even okay this! He just walked out with my cat! This easily would have added £100+ to my bill if he came back and had given her a blood test but luckily the nurses were all busy. His reason for wanting to give her a blood test was she may have a neurological disorder as she is twitching. After leaving the vets I decided to go get a second opinion from another vet we will call her Alice, she did a lot more tests on Luna showing she does have entropion in both her eyes which could cost £3000 to be operated on! Alice also said Maxitrol is not the right eye drop for Luna and has no idea why I have been given it so many times. She told me Maxitrol is a steroid and Luna has no signs of irritation in her eye to even need them, Maxitrol could have actually caused serious damage to Lunas eye if she had a cyst or a cat herpes which Luna has never been checked for, Alice went on to explain cat herpes is quite common in cats. Instead I have been given a ‘eye lube’ to help Luna produce enough tears instead of Maxitrol. I just feel like I’ve been mugged off and I’m so unsure as to what I should do, I’ve spent so much money on Lunas bills which most of it being Maxitrol over and over again but she never needed it, I do not have 3k and that’s pretty much my entire year of earning. I would never give Luna up Id work an extra job if I had to and I hope there is a pay in instalments plan as I don’t think my insurance is going to cover this surgery.

TLDR; Vet charged me for things I didn’t ask for/didn’t have my permission to do Cat was wrongly prescribed £100+ worth of steroids multiple times when all she needed was ‘eye lube’ Cat now needs a £3000 surgery for an issue that went undetected though multiple eye checkups.
