TL;DR Cat I’m watching for the summer is terrified of my dog, how can I make this summer work?
Due to some dire circumstances, I am now pet sitting a friend’s cat for the next 3 months. The problem is that this cat has never been around dogs, and is extremely fearful of my 80+ lbs dog. My dog has lived with cats before and she is okay with them, but she does like to chase and play with them, which my cats are fine with, but my friend’s cat (obviously) is not. He is doing that deep chest growl that cats do when threatened and it is making my dog growl back at her (which I’ve been doing my best to discourage, the last thing I want is for her to see him as danger and hurt him.) Does anyone have any tips, tricks, suggestions on how I can make this work? I don’t care if they never interact or become friendly with each other, I just want both to feel safe and as comfortable as they can be while under the same roof.
