Rehoming isn't an option, I love them both so much.
They're 9 years old, I've had them since they were kittens. Domestic longhair mixes, the kind that are often labeled Maine coons. They're such sweet cats. Really affectionate and loving, never mean.
But they're so, so bad.
They fight all the time. We use Feliway diffusers and Jackson Galaxy's friendship spray to no avail. They're bloody, nasty fights too.
The girl cat has always peed on things since she was little, especially soft things like clothes, but she'll also pee on countertops and everywhere else. We have four litter boxes to try to curb this but nothing works. We also got a self-cleaning box so it would be fresh at all times, and while she will happily poop in it she won't pee in it. Our house smells terrible. We spend a LOT of money on Nature's Miracle every month and it still reeks. It's so bad our eyes burn if we don't keep the windows open.
They scratch furniture and carpeting even though they have multiple cat trees and different types of scratching posts, and we put catnip on them too. They use their trees and posts, they just also use the furniture.
They get cat hair everywhere. It's all over everything. We both have pretty rough allergies and are constantly coughing, sneezing and barely able to breathe. We can't afford allergy shots.
My partner (who's had them as long as I have) wants to let them outside so we can get a break from them (especially our allergies) but I don't want them killing wildlife. So we're kind of at a standstill and don't know what we should do. My partner's thing is that if we don't let them outside, she wants to rehome them because she's exhausted from their constant shenanigans. But I feel like they would just be put down, especially Pee Cat. I completely understand why she'd want them to go though, honestly. :(
Has anyone else dealt with this?
