My cat needs some teeth pulled. Is our vet trying to rip us off?

My 8 year old little lady's dental hygiene is not great, and I know that's my fault. Please don't scold me, but help me to be a better cat parent. If you have advice for helping her, and my other cat, with their dental hygiene, I'd love to hear it!

Unfortunately, it has come to the point where our vet is recommending a complete cleaning and pulling some of her teeth. They have given me a quote, saying the price will be between $800 and $950 USD depending on the time duration. As this is my first experience with this, I'm not sure if the vet is trying to rip me off. What do you think?
