Tank is on the mend!

Ah - back at the beginning of June, we had dentals done on two of our dachshunds. Both had some sort of a fatty lump on them and we had those removed at the same time. Tank decided he didn't like his stitches, he removed those along with a 5"x5" section of his skin. Our local vet was able to stitch him up with what skin was left. That worked for about a week. While Tank was at the vet he reached around his comfy cone and ripped his stitches out again. He went down to the emergency vet, which is about an hour and a half away. They stabilized him for the night as I was out of town. I got him in the morning and took him to the level one trauma center/hospital which is about three hours away from home. There the had to wait about five days before they could close him up, there wasn't a lot of skin left. They were able to close up most of it, there are two areas that are still open, but healing fast. He is home with us and recovering. Moral of the story? Extra long e-collars and soft e-collars are your friends. (Yes, he is wearing both)
