Hey guys! My kitten is around 6ish months old and has recently gained the ability to jump onto counters. He is driving me absolutely insane with it. I know a lot of people let cats walk on counters, and more power to you, but I dont want him walking where I prepare food.
I tried leaving tinfoil up there, it doesn't bother him. I tried double sided tape, he isnt phased. I have a squirt bottle I try to secretly squirt him with when I hear him go up, it isnt doing anything. He doesnt even get down when he notices I saw him, and he will routinely try to jump up when I'm preparing things. I have a couple giant cat trees, one of which is 85" tall and overlooks the kitchen. I keep the counters clean so there is nothing interesting up there (He did grab some baby tomatoes I had up there ripening. He monched them up and ruined them. Guess I'll start ripening them on top of the refrigerator...). I wipe them down with citrus oil. I thought about getting those automatic motion detecting sound makers, but loud sounds dont bother him and I think itd be a waste of $30.
I am at my wits end here and have literally no idea what to do next. How am I supposed to break him of this?
