Last night a stray, well a cat that got away from its owner and obviously has been on the street for a few weeks (it had a bell collar and flea collar but was very scrawny) followed me home. It was obviously friendly with humans as it let me pet it and pick it up. Anyways I separated my cats into my bedroom and kept the stray in the living room both with food water and litter. Both of my two indoor cats got into a fight, which I broke up, no damage just swatting each other hard. The next morning I took the stray to the pound and let my cats out. Now they wont get near each other without hissing and posturing.
Here's the thing I found both of my cats at the same recycling center when they were 3-4 weeks and they were raised together. They used to play together/sleep together in the same cat bed and until a month or two ago. But in the last month or two it seems they have been growing distant they dont play together or sleep in the same bed anymore. It seems more like they just put up with each other but dont socialize. Their both almost 18 months now. Now (after the stray) they wont go near each other or in the same room unless for food where they both watch each other closely while eating. So I am at a loss to get them back to socializing with each other again. I think the stray just made the problem much more obvious to me
