We currently live in a small home up north. Our home isn’t very large- but it’s comfortable, cozy and warm. Last year we adopted a cat that was about 1 year old who came from a rescue shelter. She wasn’t necessarily abused but did not come from a good home. Overall point, she is well fed and taken care of.
However, she will not stop meowing at the door and trying to escape. When she isn’t meowing “like a machine gun on full blast” she is trying to escape. She runs for the door at the slightest crack. She has escaped 3 times just this week. I cannot even walk out to start my car for work without locking her in a room because I can’t risk her escaping and making me late.
She has been doing this for over a month now. I cannot sit down and relax at all without locking her in the bathroom. This sounds horrible but it’s affecting my mental health because the cat will simply not stop. The last time she escape she ran under the deck thru a small hole and I could not get her out. Her only fixation is to get outside. She is no longer social with us. She does not hang around my other cats either. She sits at the window and meows constantly waiting for someone to let her out. She is not an outdoor cat and to my knowledge never has been.
It’s to the point where I will have to get rid of her. I can’t live my life like this anymore and it’s breaking my heart because I love her. But being unable to relax without having to lock her in a dark room is not working. I am going to take her to the vet but I am at the point where I spray her with a water bottle until she stops. I don’t want to do this to her, and I also have never rewarded her for this behavior.
Am at a loss. What do I do.
