Trying to find the best suited pet between guinea pigs, rats, and mice?

So, my boyfriend and I are interested in getting a smaller, caged pet. It's really important to me that it enjoys human interaction. Something that likes to play but also enjoys some cuddle time. My experience with guinea pigs (which is minimal) is that they are rather skittish, but maybe they would be more cuddly if adopted as babies? Rats seem like good companions as they are intelligent, trainable, and like human contact. We are just a little grossed out by the tails but i figured we could likely overcome that bit. Mice, i know very little about in comparison to the other two. I am aware of the cage requirements for each one and would get more than one (in the appropriate pairing) so that they had a companion. I'm just not sure which one best suits this.

I use to have hamsters but i am less interested in them due to their lack of interest/desire in human interaction and also sleeping all the time throughout the day (nocturnal).
