We have 2 cats aged 13 and 18 respectively. Both have grown up with a large dog in the house whom we unfortunately lost to cancer late last year.
About a month ago we got a golden retriever puppy. We figured as our cats were used to a dog and both adjusted well despite been several years old at the time things would go smooth again.
Basically, we'd do the separation, then crated introduction, then leashed introduction, let the cats smell the puppy toys and blanket, etc.
Unfortunately our cats our still very sketched out by the presence of the puppy. On the plus side they have the whole basement to hang out in (where they always spent 80% of their time already), but now they rarely come to our ground floor at all. This even includes in the late evening when the puppy is sleeping in her crate in a separate room.
As I work from home in the basement and it's our family room the cats are pretty much getting the same attention as always, are relaxed, eating well ... it'd just be nice for them to get comfortable to wander the whole house again.
Anything you could suggest besides what we're doing? Maybe just a matter of more time?
Thanks!
