Separating litter mates due to health concerns after 2 years

I have three cats in total. The two litter mates (both males, just under 2 years old, and one 20 year old female cat (I’ve had her since she was 8 weeks). The two litter mates, Sarge and Caboose, were adopted at 5 weeks when their mother was killed by a dog. Since then they have both lived with me and my now former boyfriend (breakup unrelated). We had been regularly measuring their food for the proper amount for cats of their age, and made sure to always stay on top of it. However, Caboose has continued to gain weight, and regularly over-eats to the point of throwing up undigested food. I’ve been trying to get Sarge extra food, but he is still losing weight little by little, and so we decided that we had to separate them for both their health sakes. During all this, Sarge has developed anxiety about food, always reacting skittish when eating and looking over his shoulder in a way, and he has become extremely persistent about getting to the food that we feed the old lady (she now will only eat wet food, and I’m not going to fight her on it). He is also always covering up his food dishes when he is done eating, presumably to try and keep Caboose from eating more than necessary. We finally got them separated, and I have just introduced Sarge and the old lady to their new home, and Sarge is not having an easy time coping. Is there a way to help him adjust to living without his brother? I plan on letting them visit each other on occasion, just because they do get along very well, they just can’t live together because Caboose needs to be put on a strict diet, and that just isn’t feasible with both of them in one living situation. What can I do to help him? He is just crying out, and when we are loving on him he seems to be okay, but while we are trying to sleep he gets a little distressed. I’m just kind of at a loss. I’ve never dealt with something like this before. Any help is appreciated.
