Can you keep a kitten in a crate at night until he is old enough to not get hurt or stuck?

I’ve never owned a cat, only dogs so I’m familiar with crating.

I’m getting a kitten in 2 weeks as my cousin who works at a shelter said they had 8 kittens come in who were abandoned in a skip and the shelter is struggling to find people to adopt them.

I did google if they can sleep in crates at night and some articles say they can but I wanted to know the opinions of real people and experienced cat owners.

I would buy a big enough crate for a litter box, a water bowls and a comfy bed and I would make it cosy. And he wouldn’t be in it during the day just the night when I’m sleeping as he won’t be familiar with the house and I don’t feel it would be safe for a tiny kitten to wander alone.

And he wouldn’t be in it all his life, just until he was old enough and confident enough in his new home.

I don’t want to cause the kitten any unnecessary stress though so if this is a bad idea please let me know.

Also any experienced cat owners have any advice they think I should know I would love to hear.
