I've had our dog for about 5 years now. We got her from a local pet store that was soon to be rid of her as she was approaching the age they couldn't legally sell her any more. Afraid of seeing her go to a shelter we scooped her up. I love this dog she has got me thru some rough times in my life. But pretty much from the begining shes been very skiddish about noises. Even such mundane things as a plastic bag. We do our best to shelter her from this but as we live in a fairly dense neighborhood she often gets triggered by things like people walking by talking, car doors, neighbors doors etc. These events spark a sometimes hour long bout of whining. Our go-to has been to comfort her when she does this and ensure her it's ok and we all wont be murdered. I dont yell at her for this since I know it's coming from a place of fear and not over excitement. We've looked into thunder jackets but from what we have researched they aren't designed to be worn constantly.
Any advice or insight on how we can combat this for her and our own sake would be very welcome. Thank you!
