I'm crushed. I regret agreeing to babysat 2 different dogs for 2 different friends at the same time, in my home. I had done favors like this for friends, for years, without any problems in the past. I did not charge anyone, ever. I was helping my "friends," or so I thought.
My friends' 2 dogs were large. They got along great with my small dogs for more than a week. But I came home one evening, after being delayed by a hospital visit after a car accident that wasn't my fault, and I discovered my 16 year old dog lying under the table, crying and shuddering. There was blood and dog poop everywhere.
One or both of the friends' dogs had attacked my little one and ripped my 16 year old dog to pieces. The smell of blood was so thick, I'll never forget it. I took my injured dog to an emergency vet but she died on the table. The vet said the injuries were made by large dog(s), so my dogs couldn't gave done it. My dogs didn't have blood on their white fur, either.
Cleanup of the murder scene took me two days, but I'm scarred for life. I'll never forget It. It was the most horrific scene I've ever encountered (and that's saying a lot, because, years previously, I was at work when a human was stabbed in my office).
Finding my sweet, pure, innocent little dog in that wounded condition was and still is extremely awful. I'll never be the same as I used to be. It didn't help that neither "fiend" gave a single rip about my dead dog or me. Neither asked how I am or offered to help with the vet bill. One took her dog back but the other has abandoned her dog and didn't even try to get the dog back from me. So for now, anyway, I'm stuck with a possibly dangerous dog that possibly ripped my little dog to shreds.
I'm not only scarred for life by the attack, the loss of my dog, the bloody scene, the cleanup, and the aftermath, but I also lost 2 "friends," and I'll never help another person with an animal again.
It's changed me for the worse because I think people suck a lot more, now, than I ever used to.
