I attempted to sleep with my door open when I initially adopted my kitchen 6 months ago, but quickly he began waking me and my partner up around 3am-4am by biting our faces, attacking our feet, etc. We read cats get hungry around this time, so we began filling his dry food bowl half way before we went to bed so he wouldn’t be desperate for food by 4am.
This seemed to be fine for a while, but now the situation has escalated. My cat now wakes me and my partner up almost every night by scratching at the door for long periods of time. I now have a job where I need to wake up by 5am, so every little bit of sleep counts. It’s been difficult to be woken up around 3am-4am, stealing an extra hour or two of sleep when I have a 12 hour work day.
Clearly my cat is trying to communicate something, but I can’t seem to figure it out. My partner goes to sleep around 2am, and I’m up by 5am. Something is happening with our cat between these 3 hours, and I would really appreciate any advice or ideas on how to resolve his apparent needs, and get back to a full night’s rest.
