I cut his nails for the first time on my own recently and on the first nail I cut slightly too short. He didn’t bleed, but I could tell how close I came to it by his reaction and I could kind of see the end of the kwik (sp?). I gave him a minute and made sure he knew I didn’t do it on purpose, but for the rest of the nails I only very slightly trimmed them. It was such a slight trim I couldn’t notice, but at least I wasn’t getting stabbed every time he hugged me (his dewclaw was the main dagger). I’m debating on only cutting the dewclaw from now on and only doing the rest if they haven’t really been getting worn down by walking.
