How to pick the right vet?

Currently my husband and I are fostering our friends' cat since they have been moving. Eventually the cat will go back to his owners. Now on to my question. My husband and I have befriended one of the street cats in our neighborhood and really want to take him in after our foster leaves. Sadly, we can't just bring him in now, even though he tries really hard to come into our home, because we really have no room to quarantine him from our foster. Our place is too small and we have no way of keeping the two cats separate. We really want to take him into a vet asap because we want to keep him as safe as we can. Right now I think we will try to at least get him his shots, maybe depending on the budget get some blood work and other things too. Ideally I would also get him fixed but again we can't keep him during he healing process and I would feel terrible about just setting him outside after minor surgery. There seem to be quite a few clinics in my area and I've been looking at them and reading reviews. I just feel a bit overwhelmed and don't really know how to pick a place. Any advice on how to pick a good vet near us and or which things to get done in his appointment. I appreciate you taking the time to read this and any advice you guys have!!
