My girlfriend and I have a dog together and he has been the friendliest most chill dog ever, but a couple days ago she was letting him in the house and he stopped right at the door so it slammed on his tail injuring him. (I am out of the country right now so I am doing my best to support them) She tried treating him but he would just snap at her. So she took him to the vet and they gave him antibiotics and a cone. This morning she was sitting with him petting him and comforting him, and he let out a little growl then bit her face, tearing her lip open and sending her to the ER to get stitches.
I am just seeking guidance on if he was just in pain and this is a one time act, and we can gain his trust back, or if he is going to have to find a new home or be put down. We love him very much, but we don't know if we will be able to trust him, before a couple days ago we would never believe he would hurt a soul, he never showed teeth or even barked at anything before.
