My girlfriend and myself have decided to start living with each other. I have a 10yr old Calico. Shes an only pet as she did have another cat companion but he passed a couple years ago. We lived in a basement suite for a time and the upstairs neighbor had a couple dogs and on rare occasions my cat would meet the dogs but never spent more then a couple minutes in their presence. Since those days weve been living in a quite no dog apartment for the past 2 1/2 years.
My gf has 2 small dogs. One is a young Chihuahua-pug about 8 months old. She also has a 12 year old chihuahua . She has brought them over to my apartment a handful of times. My cat seems to be relatively cool with them. Shes not running away, and sometimes will flop on her side with her belly exposed as the pups check out my apartment. If the dogs get in her personal bubble the hissing and swatting begins. My cat hasn't spent more then 45 min in there presence at a time.
Because my apartment doesn't allow dogs its been decided that I move into my girlfriends place. My cat will be in a brand new environment, now with 2 dogs. Im awfully concerned how shes going to handle this? My cat is kind of a scardy cat. shes always been a little fearful, and she reacts to noises. i could be petting her on my bed and if my foot rubs on the bed sheet and makes a noise, her alertness gets cranked too 11! Dont even get me started when an amber alert starts blaring from my phone! you'd think a nuclear bomb was about to drop. Im concerned shes not going to like this new life style.
Anyone have any similar experience and how did you handle it? How did it all turn out? any pro tips? Its always been just me and her and now its another human and 2 dogs with relatively high energy. I dont want my cat to spend her golden years in fear and high anxiety. But i also cant sit around and wait for her to pass away before i can get on with my life and have a relationship.
