Separation anxiety... help!!

My pup is now a year and 3 months old. When I first got him at 8 weeks I was unemployed so I got to spend a lot of time with him. Even when I got employment I still didn’t work many hours and got to spend lots of time with him. Now, I’m starting to get more work and work more hours so he has to be home alone a little bit more. The last few months have been awful. He will shred anything we put in his cage to bits, he will scoot the cage across the floor and chew clothes or bags even if there is a weight on top of the cage. I tried leaving him out of the cage one time and he got into everything you could think of, pill bottles, razor pack, plants around the room, knocked over my nightstand ETC. I still don’t work crazy hours, like today I was only gone from 6:30am to 9:30am and he still tore up a sweater I had in the bottom of his cage and a bag that was sitting a little too close to his cage that I didn’t notice before I left. It’s just getting very frustrating and I have no idea what to do to stop him! He freaks right out if he’s alone. Anyone have any advice or experience on dogs with major separation anxiety? I feel like I really messed up by being with him so much, I feel like this is all my fault and that I messed him up :(
