3 months ago we found out our 2.5 year old was extremely allergic to our cat. We immediately took all the precautions we could to help him. She isn't allowed in his room. We bought a heavy duty air purifier for his room too. We were careful to keep him away from places she lays. I'm not so sure it helped because he still has extreme allergy symptoms.
Fast forward to yesterday where our 8 month old was tested for allergies because has had congestion type issues her whole life. Turns out she is allergic too and she sleeps in our room where the cat also sleeps.
Its not fair to our kids to keep our cat around. I've seen them suffer for long enough. If it was up to me, I would have re-homed the cat as soon as the diagnosis for our 2.5 year old came back, but its my wife's cat who she has had her before she met me. She does not take re-homing our cat lightly but has now conceded that it is whats best for our kids.
Right now my plan is to post some stuff on our local nextdoor and facebook groups to see if anyone wants to volunteer to take her in, but I'm not optimistic with her being 12 years old and the fact that she does NOT get along with other animals.
Any ideas?
