Advice on happy cat

So I have this cat, Naomi. She is gentle, loving, cuddly, and happy. Like, she loves being picked up like a baby and rocked, and loves to scootch herself under my duvet at night.

The problem is, I've had her for nearly six years and that is NOT her personality: I adopted her as a baby kitten and for the entire time, she was averse to being held and would bite and scratch you if you tried. She bullied my other pets. (I have another cat and a dog.) Right now, though, I have to spend 9 months away from home, and could only take one pet; I'm fostering the others with family/friends and have Naomi with me on the trip. This whole happy-and-well-adjusted thing only (and immediately) arose now that she's an Only Pet. It's been four months and this appears to just be how she is. Like, THIS is her true personality. At home, she was terrified and territorial, and defended herself accordingly.

It seems like she needs to be an only pet. Do you guys interpret this behavior this way? Should I be looking for a new home for her? I love her-- I want her around when I go home, but I also don't want her to be miserable. What should I do?
