I have a cat named Little Man who I have had since he was a very small kitten. We found him on the side of the road and took him in. He’s been with us ever since. I would say he’s about 7 years old now, and for the past year or two he has been peeing and marking all over the house. He’s never been amazingly fond of the other animals in the house, but it was never anything that I would have thought would cause this. We did get a new dog about a year ago, but they barely interact with one another. Since we’ve had him, we had two other cats and a different dog living with him, and he never did anything like this before a year or two ago. He has been to the vet an uncountable amount of times since this issue started happening. At first, there were no medical issues, and we tried using a Feliway collar and sprays. This didn’t seem to help any. Later that year, he became blocked, and I spent the money to have the surgery in the hopes that he would stop marking. The marking and peeing did not discontinue, so the vet suggested we try Prozac. This too, did nothing. I still live at home, and my parents have been fed up with his behavior for a long time now. Little Man is my cat, but I can’t afford to keep spending all this money on him if it’s not going to help him, and I certainly can’t allow him to keep destroying my parents’ house. I love Little Man. He’s a sweet cat besides his behavioral issues. I would love to help him, but I just don’t know what to do anymore. If anyone has any advice to offer, I would greatly appreciate it. He’s currently living in the bathroom attached to my bedroom on the second floor. He is away from the other animals that way, so I thought it might help, but he’s still peeing outside the litter box. At least this way I can keep his destruction of the house contained a bit. My parents have told me I need to address this now. That means surrendering him or euthanizing him. I’d rather not do either, but I’m not really left with much choice. I don’t have too much faith that he’s going to improve living with us, but I don’t want to have him put down. That leaves me with surrendering him, but I hate the thought of him being in a cage all the time. I just don’t know what to do. Thank you for taking the time to read all this, and if anyone has dealt with something similar, I'd love to hear how you handled it.
