First worms and now fleas... how to treat!?

We noticed one baby was running fevers and was leaving her bathroom mess all over our apartment. This is not out of the ordinary as she has a compromised immune system from being abused/neglected as a kitten. However, it persisted longer than usual and when my bf's parents came to visit, they noticed our other baby (who has been fine up until this point) had a worm on her butt. We weren't sure how or why they got it but now several days later we've finally found a flea on my arm.

How is it possible that we didn't notice any fleas before? Especially considering the fact it's persisted so long that they now have worms? Best/cheapest de-wormer? Bets flea shampoo? Bf's baby is a smol chonky girl who is around 5 and my baby is a literal gymnast and is almost 7. Chonk has been diagnosed with compromised immune system but she isn't on any medications for it. Gymnast has been in perfect health as far as her records go.

We've had to wait so long to even think about getting medicine because our budget is pretty tight. Both were checked for worms and had flea protection put on them before we moved in but it seems 3 months is the cut off time and it's now been almost 4 months.
