Girlfriend was bitten by a stray kitten on her thumb yesterday. When to be worried?

She was bitten by a very small kitten, probably a few weeks old, that was hiding in a coworker’s engine outside her work. It’s a very small wound, it looks more like a scrape than anything but it did break skin. It bled a little bit, but not too much she says. She cleaned the wound several times and washed her hands but she’s still worried about an infection. About 30 hours later now she doesn’t have a fever but her thumb is a little bit red, also there’s no swelling. It also hurts when she bends the joint but the bite was right below the joint so it makes sense that pulling the damaged skin taut like that when it bends might hurt a little.

Basically she’s just worried about rabies, about infections, all that, but I’m telling her she likely has nothing to worry about. Everywhere online says a whole lot about serious infections and amputations so it’s not giving her any peace of mind. What to do?
