Before I start- yes I know rawhide is bad for her. I didn’t give it to her. She’s technically my mothers dog. She’s about 13 and a yellow lab. Yes she knows rawhide is bad too.
Now
Today my mother gave her a rawhide chew/bone. It is about a foot long if I were to guess. I watched her as we talked for maybe 20 minutes then I left to go home. About 40 minutes later she called me in a panic insisting she swallowed it whole. This would have meant she had to have maneuvered it to where it was sticking straight up and swallowed it. I really have a hard time believing this is what happened but my mom said she went into the kitchen for a minute and came back and it was gone. I came back over and we searched everywhere and we can’t find it. She had said that last she checked the end of the bone was flattened out from her chewing it. It had no knots on the ends.
So my question is— how wide is a dog’s throat, and is it even possible that she swallowed it whole like that. Wouldnt she have gagged? We’re very worried she is going to go into a life threatening condition if she tries to digest a whole rawhide.
