Moving in with a dog owner as a cat owner

Hi everybody,

I recently found out that I will be moving to a new city for work and of course I will be bringing my cat Edgar I’ve had for three years. Rent is pretty expensive but after reaching out I found a college buddy that is in the area who is also looking for a roommate to save on costs. He has a dog which I, and everybody else, from college remember as being a super loving and friendly dog. Issue is he has never interacted with a cat before. My cat has had experience not only with my family dog but also with a prior roommates dog and they were perfectly fine. If we choose to live together we wouldn’t have any time to introduce the animals prior to the first move in day. My question to you is this; is this a dumb idea? What are the odds these animals HATE eachother? What is a good way to introduce them? Should I just not risk it?

Cat is three year old domestic shorthair Dog is 4 year old mix from the shelter
