My cat is crazy and I'm considering putting it down

Hi, I have a crazy cat which didn't always use to be that way. When we adopted her from a shelter, she was the sweetest and friendliest cat we ever had. However, we had to leave 2 weeks after we adopted her. During those 2 weeks she wasn't peeing and shitting in the sandbox. As a result, we had to punish her every time she did it until she learned (it took about a week and a half). We were gone for 2 months, had someone come over each day to make sure she and the dog were fine. When we came back, she was very mean. She still is to this day. She only was nice to my mother after a few days and mean to the rest of the family. It's not like we were mistreating her. We were friendly to her, but we did punish her whenever she attacked us (so did my mother, but she was nice to her only). As months passed she even started being mean to my mother.

This isn't the only pet or cat we ever had. So we know something's wrong with her.

A few weird behaviors of hers that make me believe she's crazy:

-she asks someone in a friendly way to open the water in the sink so she could drink (we give her water but she prefers the sink) and when she's done she hisses at that same person for no reason. He was just standing there to close the sink.

-she acts friendly sometimes and even asks to be petted. But here's the weird thing. When we pet her she purrs but after 10 seconds she hisses and starts attacking.

-sometimes we try to make her get used to get close with the rest of the family by sitting next to her while doing our own thing, but she just gets angry.

-we moved to a new house recently. We had to put her in 1 room for a week so she could make it her own territory and only peed in the sandbox as a result. So we assumed she would stick to it as a result. We were wrong. 5 days after we let her out, she started peeing on our beds.

If she's going to make our lives miserable while also being in a state of constant loneliness and anger, why not put her down? Everyone is losing in this situation. If there was a way to fix, we would prefer taking that approach.

Any ideas?
